Transiting Nodes of the Moon into Sagittarius and Gemini

Self-Experience via Believes and Thoughts

On October 14th the transiting Nodes of the Moon will shift with South Node (SN) into Sagittarius and North Node (NN) into Gemini. The Nodes transit a sign for about 18 months, thus every 18th years the whole zodiac once. The upcoming transit through Sagittarius and Gemini will be completed on April 14th 2004.

Little is known and applied among astrologers regarding the healing ways of the transiting Nodes when aware of their medicine. Therefore here a little fresh-up:

The transiting South Node (SN) goes for everybody through the sign of Sagittarius, but individually through a particular house of the horoscope. The sign and house the transiting SN travels is the area, where the person experiences on an emotional basis, from moment to moment, old patterns, such as old fears, attachments and most of all unresolved emotions. Yet because they are coming from the past – this or previous lives – they are perceived as ‘homeland’, meaning they create a sense of security, even if they are unpleasant. Thus we tend to operate emotionally in every moment based on these old patterns of ‘security’ and tend to repeat the past.

On a deeper level the ruler of the sign that the SN transits – in his natal position in sign, house, aspects – will reveal the roots of those emotional patterns of the past (SN). And because of the mystical beauty of astrology, all these information, i.e. SN through sign and house and the natal ruler of the sign that the SN transits in house, sign, aspects, are written in the symbolic language of the heavens. And like particles within a kaleidoscope we will have to play with the archetypal keywords of all these astrological symbols, i.e. creating meaningful sentences, relative to old emotional patterns (SN) that the person will tend to want to repeat, because they give a sense of well-knowness.

Yet simultaneously the transiting North Node (NN) wanders through the opposite sign, and individually through a particular house of the horoscope. The sign and house the NN transits is the area, where the person experiences on an emotional basis, every second, challenges or universal invitations for a new emotional orientation beyond the old – oh so secure – patterns (SN). Yet because new emotional challenges (NN) create insecurities, fears etc. the universal reach-outs are often overlooked, mostly not even seen, thus one tends to get stock in the old (SN) – Groundhog-Day!

And again, we have a deeper level of ‘how that new emotional vibration (NN)’ can be embraced – with existing abilities! The natal ruler of the sign that the NN transits, in his natal placement in sign, house and aspects, reveals the ‘how and where’ the opportunity of a new emotional home base (NN) can be approached and lived.

Lets make it graphic. SN transits Sagittarius and the 7th house. The natal Jupiter, ruler of Sagittarius, is located in the 4th house Virgo. Thus in any form of relationship (7th), be it friend, partner, client, etc., the person will experience old patterns (SN) relative to Sagittarius, i.e. foreign cultures, teachers, philosophy etc. Let’s say the person is dating (7) a teacher from a foreign country (Sag). They have a lot of fun (Sag) and she gives (7) more and more (Sag). On a deeper level that pattern is rooted in her inner emotional self-image (4) where she feels inferior (Virgo) and needs to compensate (Jupiter) by giving (7) to be the nice girl (Virgo-4). This pattern again is rooted in her early upbringing (4) and her mom’s (4) believes (Jup) relative to lack and inferiority (Virgo) by a religious (Jup) imprint of ‘guilty (Virgo) because of being woman (4)’.

Now we would understand, why this person is so ‘giving’. Displaced emotions of the inner child (4) are lived via the relationship by giving to the other one (7), in the inner child hopes that the other one would do the same for the person. Yet because it is an old pattern (SN) based on a believe (Jup) of lack (Virgo), the pattern of such old form of giving (SN 7) will only make sure that the old childhood emotion (4) will be repeated.

Yet NN transits the 1st house Gemini and natal mercury is in the 9th Aquarius. Here is the universal invitation for that person to move away from the old patterns (SN) and to focus emotionally (NN) on oneself (1) by following one’s own free (1) way of thinking (Gem). Therefore the physical body (1) and its messages (Gem) shall be embraced emotionally (NN) in the first place. That requires a breaking free (Aqu) from co-dependency (7) and moving towards independence (1), which does not mean to stop dating her teacher. Now mercury in the 9th in Aquarius is hereby the invitation to apply its unique and innovative (Aqu) way of thinking (mer) to create a synthesis (9th) of paradox (Aqu) thoughts (Gemini). And by that to objectify (Aqu) one’s believes (9th), in order to free (Aqu) the mind (mer) and thereby -–in this case – the body (1). Thus the body (1) could become the source of emotional (NN) information (Gem) that would lead to the higher mind (mer-Aqu) and to a natural (9th) form of believes (9th) based on real experience (1); accepting her body as a wonderful vehicle (1) that will communicate (Gem) extraordinary (Aqu) information (mer) and intuitions (9th) as soon as she allows herself to focus emotionally (NN) on her body (1) and its instinctive needs (1).

This shall only show one possibility of how these symbols can be interpreted relative to SN symbolizing the past and NN symbolizing the new. Many other layers can be seen in these symbols.

Yet what does the SN transit through Sagittarius and the NN transit through Gemini offer for all of us?

Sagittarius is well known for traveling. Yet who or what travels constantly? The mind, Gemini. Its air ignites the fire of Sagittarius. Sagittarius stand for our interpretation of the higher meaning of life, thus for believes. Every human being believes in something higher. And what we believe (Sag) we will be inspired (Pisces) and by our thoughts and language (Gemini) it will become reality (Virgo), then we have the prove (Pluto) that our belief (Sag) was right. A viscous cycle that leads to enmeshment with our believes. This happens individually and collectively. As soon as we see and fight the ‘reality’ we have forgotten that it started with our belief, yet we don’t (want to) own that. Within that vicious cycle our mind (Gemini) gives us all the reasons and words to keep the belief (Sag) up and in the end we feel victimized (Pisces).

Thus I see that in the upcoming transit of the Nodes we will have a chance to experience our beliefs coming from the past (SN through Sag) and to use our mind (NN Gemini) to move beyond them. Therefore I will introduce you to The Work of Byran Katty.

I know that most astrologers would interpret that symbolism (NN Gem) as the invitation to read more (Gem), to bring your intuition (Sag) into the forum of other opinions (Gem), to write (Gem) etc. And I do agree that this is a part of it. Yet to me that isn’t deep enough. And I also doubt, if it would be of evolutionary help.

We live in a time and culture that glorifies the mind, the IQ, the knowledge, numbers etc. The mind by itself is restless and always hungry. Thus in our culture are person that read a lot and thus knows dates of historical events and names of famous people will be honored as an intelligent person. But as stated in Taoism, ‘a donkey loaded with books is not wise’. And it is the nature of the mind to chat all the time and to discriminate everything by names and essentially in good or bad. “I love that/I don’t love that”, is most commonly used in our American language. And as long as we give our thoughts and mind so much attention as we do in our western world, we overlook that we are trapped in its spider web, blinded and unable to experience who we really are. And as I stated before our beliefs that are rooted within will be served by the restless mind and it’s good and bad reasoning.

Many of us know when we try to meditate how hard it is to still the mind. It reminds me of a monkey that claims the inner throne to be his. And as soon as your Self wants claim the throne the mind-monkey will accuse us with thousand of reason, why we mustn’t sit there. And we will raise the question why calming down the mind anyway. In that moment the mind, which is a part of the Maya, has won the battle and we stay entrapped in the collective hypnotic spell of our collective and individual interpretation of life. Well, some will be able to still the mind, others can go the path of expanding consciousness beyond the mind, some will keep the mind busy, i.e. with mantras, while tapping into the self-consciousness. All rivers end in the ocean. Yet I would love to introduce you to The Work.

The Work of Byran Katty

I find The Work of Byran Katty (www.thework.com) being the most exquisite form of self-inquiry to confront the mind (Gem) with our beliefs (Sag) relative to them being really true (Sag). The transit of Nodes through Sagittarius and Gemini therefore will give us a great chance to use the coming 18 months to inquire our beliefs (SN-Sag), when they come up, and to ask the 5 self-inquiry questions (NN-Gem) of The Work.

The philosophy that Byran Katty applies is extremely simple (Pisces) and based on reality (Virgo), i.e. God is what is. Everything is God. The moment we don’t accept reality as is, we are in war with God. Tuff statement, but unbeatable true! Yet hard for us to embrace, who we – in our Jewish-Christian-culture – have accepted the belief that the world is bad and imperfect and that we need to change that. And exactly that cultural call is the basis for our restlessness, our orientation towards the future and the reason for us humans having created a world full of suffering, war and pollution. Peace kicks in, when we accept and love what is. God is what is. Because nothing can be outside of God, thus everything is God, only our interpretation of how things should be is not in alignment that creates pain and inner suffering thus the call to fix reality. Hopeless – fix your attitude!

Also there are three kind of business: Your business, the business of others and God’s/Nature’s business. Most of the time we interfere with the business that is not ours. Inner pain, frustration, manipulation, suffering, anger, fights etc are the result. Example, if I think my partner shouldn’t watch TV that often, I am already in war with reality. Why? Because the partner watches TV. That is reality. God is what is. Thus it seems to be his/her nature – not my business. Imagine you expect the sky to be yellow – hopeless – you set yourself up for disappointment. Same thing with your partner. But because you think he/she shouldn’t watch TV, and you believe that you are right, you allow yourself to interfere in his/her business. And you start to fight his/her nature, overlooking that you fighting your own nature, maybe because it is not your truth to be with a partner that watches TV! That would be your business, thus your call to act upon your truth!

Practicing the discrimination of these three businesses will bring great peace into your life. And you will see that you will be much more real and present, thus happier.

Another thing is: There is only the moment. Well, haven’t we just come to that conclusion thanks to the transiting NN through Cancer (moment)? Yet our mind is most of the time not in the moment. It is either busy with thoughts about the past, which creates immediately pain. Even if you think of something pleasant of the past, you leave the moment and will discover that the wonderful thing form the past is not here right now, thus you don’t like the moment. Yet God is what is, yet you don’t like it, thus you are in war with reality.

Or the mind is thinking about the future, which creates immediately fear. Because we are afraid that certain things might/might not happen. Again we left the moment and are trapped in the spider web of the mind, that I call the ‘Tree of Good and Evil’.

Now again: Everything is God, thus reality is the living Divine in its constant change and only the moment exists as an ongoing eternity with its particles (people, circumstances etc. constantly changing like in a kaleidoscope). The moment is where our focus should be, on our business only. And what is my business? To be in the moment, to perceive the Divine in everything and to be in peace with what is, by being centered in my heart (heart-chakra is ruled by Venus, Venus is the lower octave of Neptune, the inner Universe, the inner Divine). That will bring joy and peace.

Well, because of our myriards of beliefs we forget to do that. By the way the original meaning of the word ‘sin’ was ‘to forget the Divine’. Our beliefs and expectations, our interference with others businesses takes us away from the peace of the inner heart. And in our culture we allow the mind to rule our lifes. We think that when we have studied this or that or will know more here and there I will find peace and joy – hopeless, the mind is always hungry and restless. Then we are trapped in the mind. Only via feeling and sensing (Venus) our inner peace (Neptune ruler of Pisces that was originally ruled by Jupiter!), we can experience a glimpse of our true self.

The Work of Byran Katty offers a simple self inquiry method that we should apply anytime we feel upset, angry, hurt, judgmental, victimized. First step is to write it on a peace of paper, to work with that sentence/sentences. i.e. I am hurt because my partner has been unfaithful to me.

  1. Is it really true…..that your partner was unfaithful? => Yes

  2. Your partner should not be unfaithful – is that really true?

Everything is God, unfaithfulness seems to be a part of the existing reality all over the planet, and a cat meows, a dog barks, your partner is unfaithful, seems to be his/her nature. So is it really true that your partner shouldn’t be

Unfaithful? => No, it is not true.

3. What do you get from holding on to that belief?

Feel and sense how you feel carrying this belief that you just saw is not true.

How do you feel? Big or small, strong or weak, where is your attention, with you or at your partner, in the moment or in the past? Feel it!

4. Who would you be without that belief?

Now confront your mind with that question and give yourself time to feel and to sense yourself. Imagine your life with your partner without that belief. But watch out, the mind will try to run away and start to give other reasons, don’t buy into it. Just imagine who you would be without that belief that your partner should not be unfaithful, even though it seems to be his nature. Feel it.

5. Turn it around.

That means you take the original sentence from above, i.e. I am hurt because my partner is unfaithful. But your partner is the outer mirror for what you/your mind does with your Self. And because you don’t own that you need God disguised as your partner to mirror what you do to yourself. Thus you take him out of the sentence put you in and re-phrase it, like this:

I am hurt, because I am unfaithful to me.

Well, no you say, no I am not, I am monogamous. Well, you are unfaithful to your Self, you are not in loving relationship with your heart, maybe you are unfaithful to yourself by being with a partner who doesn’t see you, but only others as you don’t see yourself but only others.

By turning the original sentence around your have undone a belief that you haven’t own as yours. Thus you needed to experience your partner being unfaithful. Now you can smile and be grateful for him/her having been a great mirror and teacher, for you to see something about your relationship with your inner Self.

Another brief example:

“I am frustrated because my body is too fat.”

1. Is it really true that your body is too fat? => Yes
2. How can you know your body should be this way? => because it is!

God is what is!

1. Is it really true that your body is too fat? => No
3. What do you get from holding on to that belief that your body is too fat?

Feel how bad you feel inside, how your shrink and how unloving you become.

4. Who and how would you be without that belief that your body is too fat?

Confront your mind with that question, only with that question and sense how your mind starts to weaken and will drop in your heart. Now sense how you feel. Hold that feeling and center in it. That is you, truly you!

5. Turn it around:

I am frustrated because my mind tells me that my body is too fat.

or

I am frustrated, because my mind is to fat, thinking bad about my body.

These little examples should be an attempt to invite you to practice The Work relative to your own beliefs and life circumstances that will come up during the transit of the Nodes through Sagittarius and Gemini. I am aware of how hard it is to describe and thus to embrace The Work of Byran Katty. Even visiting her WebPages can not substitute the practical experience of being guided through the process of The Work by her or one of her facilitators of her workshops that are on donation basis. Important is to be able to feel how the heart opens and comes to peace, thus you entering your real strength, when you apply the five self-inquiry steps of The Work.
